Newly sworn-in Attorney General Garvin Nicholas said yesterday his predecessor had completed 90 per cent of the work of the Government and his mission was to complete the remaining ten per cent. Nicholas was speaking to reporters just after taking the oath of office before President Anthony Carmona at President’s House, St Ann’s.
He has replaced Anand Ramlogan who tendered his resignation on Monday in the face of a criminal investigation launched due to a complaint made by the Director of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) David West. West alleges he was asked by Ramlogan to withdraw his witness statement in a defamation lawsuit filed by Ramlogan against Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley in exchange for his being appointed to the PCA post.
Nicholas said he expected to be in office between later yesterday and early today to familiarise himself with all the “on-goings” and then he would decide how to proceed. On criticisms made by leader of the Independent Liberal Party, Jack Warner, that he (Nicholas) was inexperienced for the post of attorney general, Nicholas scoffed at the claims saying he would only deal with serious questions.
