Coast Guard officers arrested two men and seized over $10 million in illegal drugs yesterday after they intercepted a boat in south Trinidad.
According to a release from the Coast Guard, around 8 am officers intercepted the pirogue, named “Ruth”, off the coast of the southern peninsula loaded with packages of marijuana and cocaine.
It was towed to Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas, headquarters of the Coast Guard where 100 packets of marijuana and two packets of cocaine were found in a crocus bags.
Police said the marijuana has an estimated street value of $5.7 million while the cocaine is estimated to be worth $4.3 million.
The drugs had a combined weight of 60.77 kilogrammes, police said. The illegal drugs and suspects were handed over to the Criminal Gang and Intelligence Unit.
