A fatal early-morning accident caused gridlock traffic across East and Central Trinidad.
One person has been confirmed dead, after a three-car smash-up on the Churchill Roosevel Highway, El Socorro, around 5.30 am.
The National Operations Centre confirmed the fatality. The victim was identified as Ramjit Ramseran, whose body was strewn across the highway.
Hundreds stuck in gridlock traffic, as police diverted three lanes of rush-hour westbound traffic through El Socorro back road.
The opening of the Priority Bus Route from 8 to 10 am did not ease the resuting congestion.
In 2014, 164 people died in 146 road traffic accidents, of which 39 were pedestrians, according to the Arrive Alive website.
