CrimeWatch host Ian Alleyne this week investigated the troubling story of the disappearance of 69-year-old Azad Niamat, a well-known Chaguanas businessman and director on the board of state-owned Caribbean Airlines. Niamat has been missing since January 29, 2015. He left his 70 Main Road, Chaguanas, home around 10.45 am that day, saying he was going to a hardware store to purchase some wood. He never returned home.

Relatives reported him missing to the police and a team led by Sr Supt Johnny Abraham discovered Niamat’s Toyota Prado SUV along the Brazil Arena Road, San Raphael, the following morning. Alleyne visited Niamat’s home and spoke to family members.
Upon leaving Niamat’s home, Alleyne met with Abraham, who said he and his team were doing everything they could to find the missing man.

Anyone with information is asked to please contact CrimeWatch.  Alleyne also aired footage of a man caught breaking into a vehicle parked in the carpark of the Licensing Office in Port-of-Spain this week. The incident, which was recorded with a hidden camera, showed the man stealing items from a handbag that he retrieved from the car after the break-in.

There have been several complaints by the public of vehicles being broken into at the said carpark. It is alleged that the man shown in the footage is responsible for a series of car break-ins. To view this footage again, the public can go to Alleyne’s Facebook fan page. He is calling on the public to contact him about the whereabouts of this man.

In another story, Alleyne visited the scene where a house was broken into at Teak Avenue, Plaisance Park, Point-a-Pierre, on February 2 between the hours of 8 and 10 am. Upon realising the house was broken into, the family contacted Alleyne and the police. Alleyne was first to arrive on the scene, where he interviewed the family.

The family told him that they had called the police and made a report and also went to the station asking the police to come on the scene. However, although the station is approximately one minute and 45 seconds away from the house, the St Margaret’s police took approximately four hours to arrive on the scene. The bandits stole alcohol, money, jewelry, Ipads and appliances. Alleyne called on the St Margret’s police to show more interest in protecting citizens from unscrupulous bandits.

BREAKTHROUGH
On February 3, Alleyne also visited the Couva Market where a PTSC bus collided with a doubles van near Market Street, Couva. Doubles vendor Radica Ramroop sustained oil burns over her body. Reports state that Ramroop, 21, a Freeport mother of two, was frying doubles on the back of a van around 5 am when the bus collided with the van. She said she fell and hot oil spilled onto her. She was burnt on her hands, neck and feet and was treated at the Couva District Health Facility.

Upon leaving the scene, Alleyne spoke with PTSC officials seeking compensation for the victim. Alleyne later commended PTSC after officials compensated the victim in less than two hours.

UNSOLVED MYSTERY
Alleyne aired footage of a frightening story this week, in which a family’s house at John Peter’s Road, Charlieville, was firebombed on February 5 at 1.22 am. It is alleged that the reason behind the firebombing was a court matter involving a land issue which was dismissed in December 2014.

The family told Alleyne that the dispute resulted in them receiving several threats for over four years. They said numerous reports were made to the police requesting a protection order, but their pleas had fallen on deaf ears. The family told Alleyne they lived in constant fear for their lives. Alleyne assured the family that he would pass the information on to Sr Supt Abraham and justice would be served.
