The Police Service (TTPS) labelled as "irresposible" news reports on the ongoing probe into the murder of Dana Seetahal SC.
"The reports are inconsistent with the progress of the investigation thus far and manifest obvious distortions with material facts of the case," said a February 23 release the TTPS, signed by Ellen Lewis, Head, Corporate Communications.
Seetahal was gunned down in her vehicle on May 4, 2014, at the corner of Hamilton Holder and O’Connor Streets, Woodbrook.
"The TTPS considers it extremely irresponsible the naming of any officer/individual from any agency or organisation who may or may not be assisting with the investigation," the release said.
"Commissioner of Police (Ag.), Stephen Williams, is mindful of the legitimate public interest attending the investigation; and in this regard, urges restraint in any form of media reporting or commentary and calls for an absence of speculation which could possibly hamper the investigation."
The murder probe "continues to be treated with the ‘highest priority’ by lead investigator, acting Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime and Support, Glen Hackett," the release said.
A public statement will be made after the the police complete their investigation and submit the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for review and direction, the release said.
