Laventille East/Morvant MP Donna Cox said her rejection by the PNM’s screening committee came as a surprise and she still is waiting on an explanation as to why she was not selected. She was speaking to members of the media yesterday during her sixth annual Luncheon and Grooming for the Elderly event at Angostura House, Eastern Main Road, Laventille. She said she was certain it was not lack of representation which led to her being booted out.
She added: “I must be disappointed, of course, because clearly I know it is not lack of representation. There has never been any issue as far as I am concerned with representing my constituency. “But I would lie if I didn’t say that I was in a state of shock based on what took place. I was not expecting it. “Some people might have been expecting it but I was not expecting it. At the end of the day I would say God is in control. What man may mean for evil God may mean it for good.”
She said despite not being selected there was “no love lost” between her and Opposition Leader Keith Rowley. “It can’t be any love lost because clearly I don’t know the reason so I don’t want to jump to conclusions without knowing exactly why. I have always had a good relationship with Dr Rowley and if I feel there were shortcomings he would have told me so,” Cox added. On her future plans she said she had none.
Asked if she believed there was a clique within the PNM to get rid of certain members Cox said she was not a part of any clique.
