CrimeWatch host Ian Alleyne again appealed to the nation’s motorists this week to be cautious on the roads after a series of recent accidents claimed several lives.
The worst of the tragedies occurred on March 21st when friends Luke Walters, 24, Ajay Gosein, 23, Suresh Nanan, 34, and Praimnath John, 26, were killed in a smashup along Cacandee Road, Felicity.
Police said at around 11.45 pm, John was driving his Nissan Cube along the roadway when he lost control and slammed into a wall at the Jubilee Recreation Ground.
The men all died at the scene.
Alleyne aired the footage of the accident and, noting that the men were all popular in the village, pleaded with the nation to be more responsible on the nation’s roads.
Days later, on March 30, Alleyne was also at the scene of the accident which claimed the life of fireman Basil Raphael.
Police said Raphael was heading south along the Uriah Butler Highway near Price Plaza, Chaguanas, when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed. He was thrown out the vehicle on impact.
Raphael was on medical leave from the Fire Service for the past seven years after being injured on the job.
Alleyne interviewed relatives and co-workers who were all clearly in shock over the incident. Raphael’s brother pleaded to the nation let this be a lesson and for drivers to slow down on the nation’s roads.
In another story this week, Alleyne was contacted and showed up at the Waterloo Cremation site where a suspect was arrested by the Central Division Task Force after an alleged chopping incident.
Details were sketchy, but Alleyne was told the suspect got into an altercation at a funeral and chopped a relative of the deceased. The matter was handled quickly by the police and no further injuries or incidents were reported.
Alleyne also praised the Chaguanas police for their quick and efficient performance this past week, after when a woman who had stolen goods from a popular central clothing store was caught soon thereafter while attempting to escape.
The incident took place on March 23 and Alleyne was on the scene and later aired exclusive video to the nation.
UNSOLVED MYSTERY
Garvin “G” Andrews was shot dead at his apartment at 3 Road Junction, Freeport, on March 17.
A firearm with a scope was also found in Andrews's apartment by police investigating the case.
Alleyne is also investigating the matter and it is alleged that a female companion is assisting the police.
The CrimeWatch host said he found it strange that the gunmen had spared the woman’s life, especially since she may be able to identify the shooters.
