The Ministry of National Security has yet to begin investigations into allegations against a senior fire officer. Video of the officer, which alleged he physically assaulted a former co-worker and taking his clothing off were circulated by colleagues on a social Web site. The officer has since been sent on vacation leave pending the results of the investigation.

In a telephone interview yesterday, National Security Minister Carl Alfonso said the investigation had not started. He said he did not meet with acting Chief Fire Officer Roosevelt Bruce or members of the Fire Services Association. “No, it did not start and he is now on leave and Mr Bruce is acting and I am willing to meet with them and members of the association,” Alfonso said.

However, president of the association Leo Ramkissoon said they met with Bruce and had discussions. “We met with the acting chief and he made a commitment to address certain issues,” he added. Ramkissoon said Bruce has also promised to look at outstanding allowances and excess hours and to treat with defective vehicles. He said other issues included housing for firefighters. The association would like to meet with Alfonso but it did not get a response, Ramkissoon said.
