The parents of murdered Chinese businessman Hi Hong Huang were expected to arrive in the country last night.
The elderly couple were said to have travelled to T&T via New York and were assisted by the Chinese Embassy, who ensured that they experienced no problems on their journey.
Sources close to the family yesterday confirmed that Hong Huang’s parents would like to return his body to the Chung Shan Province in China. However, it is believed that Huang’s wife has expressed an interest in having her husband buried here.
Hong Huang, 35, was fatally shot as he struggled with bandits during a robbery outside his business, Happiness Supermarket at Southern Main Road, Curepe, on Tuesday.
CCTV footage revealed he was shot by one of the attackers as he attempted to wrestle with another, to prevent them escaping with a box containing money. An autopsy confirmed that Hong Huang died as a result of a bullet to the chest.
Less than 24 hours after the incident, police arrested two Jamaican women at the Piarco International Airport.
The suspects were said to have been employed as security guards at the supermarket.
Concerned that the two male suspects involved may have already fled the country, officers yesterday said they were pursuing several leads.
The father of three children aged nine, five and two, Hong Huang has been described as a “hard-working and generous person who gave freely.” Family friends revealed that he had been considering selling the business as a result of a similar incident which occurred recently, when he was attacked while on his way to deposit money in the bank.
Sources said although Hong Huang and his wife had been resident in T&T for the past 12 years, one of their children had been living with his parents in China. His wife was said to be distraught and inconsolable since his death and is under medication as a result.
