A two-year-old child is alleged to have been sexually assaulted while at a daycare in East Trinidad.
The child’s mother is now making a desperate appeal to the relevant authorities to pursue investigations and have her child’s molester arrested so that justice can prevail.
The incident allegedly took place on February 23.
Speaking with the T&T Guardian yesterday, the child’s mother said she dropped her off at the daycare and picked her up that same day at about 6 pm. She claimed that while on the way home her daughter began crying and pulling at her pampers and asking for it to come off.
“Well, first I thought it strange, when I picked her up my child seemed very angry. By the time we got home she cried more, so her grandmother took off the pamper and got a shock of her life when she saw blood in the pamper. I checked my child carefully and found that her genital area was swollen and pinkish in colour,” the mother said.
The toddler was taken to the Area Hospital where she was medically examined by the District Medical Officer who confirmed that she had been sexually molested.
The 27-year-old mother said the following day the child’s father went to the daycare to collect the child’s personal belongings, but when he returned home with them she noticed that the child’s clothes, which she wore on the day of the alleged incident, were washed with bleach.
“Normally I would send a plastic bag for them to put my daughter’s dirty clothes, which they usually do, and I would then have to wash it at home, but I found it strange that the clothes which were picked up the next day were washed already and there was a high scent of bleach,” the mother said.
The mother said she had been in constant contact with the police but was told by them that they were yet to get in touch with the owner of the daycare.
“I don’t know what it is really going on but I want justice for my child. This is a nightmare for us,” she said.
“Up to today (yesterday) my child is still bawling for pain every time I bathe her and have to wash that area. This needs to be looked at urgently by the police before other children are hurt just like my first and only child was hurt.” RD
