Indian national Rahul Tekwarie, who allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman, has been granted $100,000 bail.

The 24-year-old businessman, who runs an Indian expo in Debe, appeared yesterday before Siparia Magistrate Margaret Alert charged with rape and grievous sexual assault.

The offences allegedly took place at his Barrackpore home on Wednesday. He was charged by WPC Ramroop.

He was represented by attorneys Petronella Basdeo and Chris Ramlal.

In an application for bail, Basdeo said Tekwarie was opening another business, had no pending matters or previous convictions and the police had his passport. He also has a work permit to stay in Trinidad until September.

As a condition of his bail, the magistrate ordered him to stay 30 feet away from the victim.

The matter was adjourned to May 21.
