The son of Guardian Media Ltd columnist Clevon Raphael died yesterday after he was injured in a car accident along the Priority Bus Route on Monday.
According to police reports, Clevon Moriba Raphael, 34, was returning to his Malabar home with his three-year-old son Moriba Kadon Raphael around 3.30 pm when he lost control of his car near Railway Road, Arouca, and crashed into a light pole.
The two were first taken to the Arima Health Facility and then transferred to Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
Raphael died yesterday around 6.30 am while his son remains warded in a serious but stable condition.
Speaking with the T&T Guardian at his St Joseph home yesterday, Raphael described his son as an “exceptional young man” who received a grading of eight out of ten. The two missing points was because he was human, Raphael said.
He said the last time he spoke with “Reebs” was when he called him at home last Saturday to discuss a documentary showing on television about marijuana. Raphael said his son had just started a new job at a pharmaceutical company on Monday.
The veteran journalist said his son was a joker at heart and though he was ailing with a poor kidney, he joked about that too.
“He was the life of the party. He did not like to see anyone down. He would always try to cheer someone up,” Raphael said, adding his other grandson, Clevon Keynai Raphael, is due to sit Secondary School Entrance Assessment tomorrow and up to 4 pm yesterday had not been informed of his father’s death or that his brother was hospitalised.
