Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is thanking the mothers of the country for their contribution in building T&T. In her Mother’s Day message, the PM paid tribute to mothers who run home and communities.
"Today, as we fondly recall our own personal memories of our mother, let us also pay tribute to all the mothers who have worked at the forefront to shape our nation, those who work quietly in the background shaping and supporting the ideals of their children and the many others who work tirelessly everyday to keep their families together, nurture their children and protect their communities."
She added, "In T&T, we are well aware that many of our mothers face the joys and trials of motherhood without significant male support. In this regard my government has put in place many initiatives to reduce the burden of care encountered by many of our mothers particularly our new, young mothers."
The Prime Minister urged all mothers to continue to continue their "innovativeness" in building family life and the country. "To the mothers; grandmothers; stepmothers; sisters, aunts and fathers who also take on the role of mother, I salute your strength, your innovativeness, your selflessness. For all that you have given to us, I thank you.” She also pointed to several Government programmes which she said have been assisting mothers to build a better life.
