Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar yesterday displayed on a screen at yesterday’s People’s Partnership anniversary rally, photos of the first of 12 Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) that have just arrived in T&T.
She said that under the PNM regime the OPVs were estimated to cost US$135 million, but her administration was able to purchase the vessels for $35 million, “which is US$100 million less.”
“These vessels will lockdown all maritime borders, so we can fight the drug trafficking, the human trafficking and the trafficking of guns and ammunition,” she said.
“By next month, more will come in. So today I rededicate and recommit that we must join hands and together we will fight the criminals. There will be zero tolerance for crime. We will lockdown the criminals and take back safety and security in T&T.”
