Jewelry bandits have struck again, this time in Princes Town where they carted away millions of dollars in gold and diamonds over the weekend.
The robbery took place at Deepak Jewelry Store, High Street, Princes Town, a stone’s throw away from the police station.
The owners, who reside in La Romaine, discovered the break-in when they turned up for work yesterday.They told the police they secured their business place on Saturday.
When they returned yesterday they discovered the thieves had entered the premises by cutting two steel doors at the back of the building.
Large holes were also made in a concrete wall.
The intruders also blasted open four vaults and emptied their contents which included diamond and gold jewelry as well as a large amount of cash.
They also sprayed the CTV cameras with paint and stole the DVR which would have recorded the crime.
In February thieves broke into the M&M Pawn Shop, Henry Street, Port-of-Spain, and carried away and estimated $15 million to $20 million in cash and jewelry
Blow torches and other tools were used to cut the safes in that incident.
Similarly, last December an $8 million heist took place at Jankie’s Jewelry, Plaza 2001, Chaguanas Main Road.
Senior Supt Zamsheed Mohammed, Inspector Don Gajadhar, acting ASP Ali, Sgts Ramroop and Ramlogan are continuing investigations.
