The peace among warring gangs in Sea Lots, Port-of-Spain, was shattered yesterday following the first killing in the area for the year.
According to police reports, 41-year-old Anthony Fraser was found at the side of the road with bullet wounds around 4.30 am.
Police said residents of Pioneer Drive, Sea Lots, contacted officers of the Besson Street Police Station after they found the body.
Investigators said they had no motive for Fraser’s killing but admitted that he had a criminal past which might have caught up with him.
Homicide officers are continuing their investigations.
Speaking at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday, relatives of the murdered man, who asked not to be identified, said Fraser was a family man and hard working. They admitted that he had a criminal past but had changed his ways after his release from prison and had turned his life around.
In another unrelated killing, Justin Solomon, 31, was shot dead at Upper Seventh Avenue, Malick, Barataria, by two gunmen.
Solomon, police said, had just parked his car when he was attacked a short distance away from his father’s mini-mart.
His sister, Josanne Solomon, said her brother was a jovial man who did not deserve to be chased and killed in the streets.
Speaking with the media outside the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday, she said she was at home in Upper Seventh Avenue, Malick, Barataria, around 6.30 pm when she heard the gunshots that ended the life of her brother.
Solomon said her brother loved his car and since he got a driver’s licence had been a PH driver.
She added that her brother had one child.
The country’s murder toll is now 165 for the year with that for the corresponding period last year being 188. (JLV)
