Justin Abraham, the son of Central Division head Senior Superintendent Johnny Abraham, was granted $350,000 bail yesterday when he appeared in court charged with three offences stemming from an altercation at a bar in Tunapuna two Saturdays ago.
Abraham, 30, of Todds Road, Caparo, who was last attached to the Northern Division headed by his cousin Senior Supt David Abraham and has six years service, appeared before Senior Magistrate Gillian David-Scotland charged with assault, demanding money by menace and misbehaviour in public office.
He was charged on Sunday after being identified during an identification parade the night before. Sergeant Byron Daniel, of the Professional Standards Bureau, laid the charges.
Police claimed the charges stemmed from a fracas at a bar in Tunapuna on May 30 where the victim was followed to his home in Arouca, assaulted and several shots fired in the air. The man reported the matter to the Tunapuna Police Station and Sgt Parks began investigating the matter.
Speaking with the media after yesterday’s court hearing, Senior Superintendent Abraham, who along with at least 12 police officers that came to give their support, said he had faith in the justice system to exonerate his son.
He added that the charges was aimed at him as there were “people” who wanted to bring him down through any means.
The senior Abraham said he would not allow that to daunt him adding: “What God has for me nobody could take it.”
The younger Abraham will reappear in court on July 6. He was represented by attorney Taradath Singh.
