Two security guards remain in police custody and a man in critical condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex following a shooting incident yesterday morning arising out of what police said was an incident of “road rage”.

According to police the security officers —ages 35 and 29—were heading west along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway around 4 am when they almost collided with a car driven by Felix Rampersad, 33, of Southern Main Road, Enterprise, Chaguanas.

Rampersad, police said, was angered by the almost collision and caught up to the vehicle driven by one of the officers at the traffic lights at Valsayn.

There he reportedly used a cutlass to hit the car the officers were in and drove off.

While Rampersad was driving off, one of the officers pulled out his gun and fired a single shot hitting Rampersad in the head causing him to crash into a nearby ditch.

The two officers were arrested and are being detained at the St Joseph Police Station as investigation continues.
