Douglas: I am being undermined

Lopinot/Bon Air West MP Dr Lincoln Douglas says there seems to be a sinister plan by “forces within and without” to undermine the work he is doing in his constituency. “As election approaches people are trying to undermine and discredit the work I am doing.” Douglas said that’s why he organised a media tour yesterday to show the 98 infrastructrural projects done. He quoted from a document titled the Loinot/Bon Air Report.

He is a member of the Congress of the People (COP), one of the parties in the People’s Partnership coalition. Douglas said he knew who the opposing forces were but vowed he is there for the “long haul” and is confident of retaining his seat, described as a marginal. Noting there was “unprecedented delivery” in the constituency over the last five years, he said 39 community buildings, including schools, were repaired.

Douglas said talk was being bandied about that his constituents do not see him but said he has been to every school and church in the area, more than once. He has worked with 57 community groups and hosted 28 huge sporting events. “For the last five years we have been giving out 20 educational grants yearly to help children make the transition from primary to secondary school.”

Asked by the media about the resignation of COP founder, Winston Dookeran, Douglas noted that he did not just resign from the party, but from politics. Dookeran owed it to himself because he was not young anymore and had medical issues, Douglas said. As for Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner’s exposes on the Government, Douglas dismissed them as coming from someone with little credibility. Warner, he alleged, said things about him (Douglas) at one time that he made up from his head.
