A 19-year-old construction worker was shot dead while two brothers were wounded in two separate incidents in central Trinidad on Tuesday night.
Police said Akeel Tallen, of High Road, La Brea, died after he was shot several times while liming with his girlfriend near her home on Teelucksingh Street, California Anwar Young, 24, and his brother, Jamal Young, 20, up to late yesterday were warded at the San Fernando General Hospital.
They were shot at their home on Flamingo Street, Couva. In both incidents, the victims were shot by an occupant of a silver Nissan Tiida, which was later found abandoned by police at Cemetery Street, Couva.
Police impounded the car for further test as they believe it was stolen. According to a report, Tallen was on a bridge with his girlfriend, Shantelle Patterson, 18, and her neighbour, Setalita Marshall, 16, around 9.50 pm when the car pulled up alongside them.
Both girls ran off as the front seat passenger got out and opened fire on Tallen. Police said although the murder seemed like a hit on Tallen they were unsure of a motive. They said he had been residing in several locations in Couva and he had been wanted for robberies in the district.Earlier, around 9 pm, the Young brothers were in the yard of their home when a silver Nissan Tiida pulled up and the front seat passenger got out and opened fire on them.
When police went to the house, they found the elder Young bleeding from the stomach while his brother had a wound to the back.
They were taken to the Couva District Health Facility and later transferred to the San Fernando hospital.
Killed Intruder Identified
The intruder who was shot and killed by a businessman on Wednesday has been identified as Terrance Jackson of D’Abadie.
Police said Jackson, whose age officers were unable to ascertain, went to the home and business of Steve Jules around 2.15 am on Wednesday where he was shot and killed. Police said Jackson was attempting to rob J and R Liquor Mart on Quesnel Street, Arima.
Jules, the owner of the business, heard a commotion downstairs and went to investigate.
While doing so he was reportedly attacked by the bandit and the two men fought. Jules, police said, pulled out his licensed gun and fired a shot at the man who died at the scene.
In an unrelated incident 70-year-old Johnathan Nelson, of Foster Road, East Dry River, is warded in a stable condition after being shot in the right leg on Tuesday. According to police reports around 12.20 pm on Tuesday Nelson was walking towards his home when he heard gunshots and felt a burning on his leg. He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he is warded. JLV
