
A 53-year-old man was held by police after he reportedly shot and killed his friend, who remains unidentified.
Police said the suspect was a US deportee.
According to police, the suspect said that he and his friend went to the suspect’s Pancho Trace, Boundary Road, El Socorro, home around 3 pm.
The pair, the suspect claimed, had an argument when the deceased pulled out a gun.
The suspect told police he wrested the firearm from his friend and shot him after he pulled out a second gun.
Police said they found the suspect seated in the garage of his home awaiting their arrival.
Both guns were found on the scene.
When the T&T Guardian arrived at the scene, the suspect was being taken into custody.
Residents described the area as quiet and said they did not know the victim or the suspect.
In an unrelated incident, two brothers were shot on Monday night, leaving one dead and another in critical condition at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
According to police reports, around 8.30 pm Keegan Raymond, 31, of De la Marre Avenue, Trincity, and his brother Akile Jeffrey, 19, of Cameron Road, Petit Valley, were in a silver Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Nicholas Lawrence when they were attacked.
Police said as Lawrence was driving along an area known as Ravine Road, Petit Valley, a gunman opened fire on the car. The brothers were hit but Lawrence was unhurt.
Raymond was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, while Jeffrey was warded in a critical condition.
Police had no motive for the shooting.
Speaking with the journalists outside the Forensic Science Centre, St James, yesterday, the boys’ mother, who did not want to be named, said she had no clue why anyone would want to hurt her sons.
She said her deceased son was now in a better place as he had lived a life that was pleasing to God.
The killing took the murder toll to 196 for the year. For the corresponding period last year the murder toll stood at 216.
