PNM candidate for Tabaquite Kevin Chan is calling on the Police Canine Unit to assist in finding his uncle Lionel Jennings who went missing on Wednesday afternoon.
Chan and his family spent yesterday searching the forests behind Jennings’s home at El Pariso Road, Guaracara. Jennings aka Darkie, 60, was last seen shutting the gates of his home. Chan said, “A neighbour saw him locking the front gate and then he walked around to the back of his house. That was the last time anybody heard or saw him.” He explained that Jennings was very health conscious and would often go for walks behind his house.
“He loved the bush. He would go there to relax but he would never go if it’s dark. Most times he would go on mornings and return at noon.”
Chan said he was disappointed that the police had not assisted them by using tracker dogs to find Jennings. He said on Thursday they went to lodge a report at the Brasso Police Station and were later told that the report had to be made to the Gasparillo police.
“The Gasparillo police came yesterday but they did not go with us in the bush to search. They told us if we didn’t find anything by midday tomorrow (Sunday), they will assist,” Chan said. He expressed fear that his uncle could have experienced some chest pains and collapsed in the bushes.
He said on Monday, Jennings visited the doctor and got medication for heart problems. Prior to this, “nobody knew he suffered from heart complications,” Chan said.
Chan’s mother, Julie Jennings Chan, said yesterday that her brother was not known to leave his home for days. She said Jennings was very close to her and if anything untoward had happened he would have informed her. Her husband, Krisha Chan, also said Jennings was not one to stay out.
