One week after his life was threatened by Morne Diablo residents who claimed he was a police informer, Dave Cooper has gone missing.

His relatives, who last saw him on Saturday night, believe he was abducted from his home at Grant Trace, Morne Diablo, between Saturday night and Sunday morning. His home was broken into and he has not been seen since.

Calls to his cellphone also have gone unanswered. Relatives said police from the Penal station failed to act on their report and it was only when the matter was reported to the Siparia CID that his home was dusted for fingerprints.

In an interview at his home yesterday, Gerald Hodge, Cooper’s cousin, said on Sunday someone passed and saw the glass pane of his front door broken and the back door open. Hodge said usually, Cooper, 47, would visit his sister, Denise, on mornings and on Sunday he did not. Worried family members went to his nearby home and their worse fears were realised.

“On checking we realised that the glass on the front door was broken, wide enough for someone to pass through. The back door was broken from the inside. There were car tyre tracks at the back of the house. We also found plastic ties and one of his pants and cap on the grass behind the house.”

Hodge said his cellphone and a DVD player were also missing. He said his nephew, who was a straightener, had no known enemies.

“I believe someone took him. I don’t think he would stage something like this by himself.”

Cooper’s niece, Stacy Cooper-Mitchell, said the first time she called his cellphone a male voice answered and hung up. Subsequent calls went straight to voice mail.

Anyone with information can call Denise Cooper at 363-3829, Gerald Hodge at 383-8886 or the Siparia CID.
