Embattled Independent Liberal Party leader Jack Warner says he has no intention of facing extradition to the United States, predicting the case will collapse just like the one filed against five former University of T&T (UTT) board members.
Speaking to 32 supporters at Rio Claro, on Wednesday night, Warner said he would emerge victorious even though the State had hired two English QCs and five local lawyers to conduct the extradition case.
However, he told supporters, it would not be the first time that David beat Goliath.
Making reference to the UTT case, Warner said, “The English lawyer said he cannot fight the case anymore. He said there is no reason to fight. He throw in the sponge. There was no basis for the case in the first place. The English lawyer they brought down lost and local guys here won. There will be a lot to pay in the end. I say this to tell you when they bring their English lawyers for me, the same thing will happen to them.”
Members of the audience applauded.
On Wednesday, the State withdrew its multimillion-dollar case against the five former UTT board members. Jamaican Queen’s Counsel Vincent Nelson had been hired to lead the State’s legal team.
Meanwhile, Warner also denied allegations from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar that he was in cahoots with the PNM.
“Rowley and I have never spoken for years since Kamla put me out of Cabinet...but she found it convenient to say we are the twosome gruesome. But when she and I were together she didn’t say we were the twosome handsome,” Warner said, as the audience guffawed.
He added, “I am a Jack Spaniard, I will sting she.”
Warner also said the Prime Minister was trying to mislead the population.
“What she bringing Rowley in this for? Rowley don’t need me and I don’t need him.”
He said that MP for Ortoire/ Mayaro Winston “Gypsy” Peters had failed his constituents.
Warner said he did not want to disclose what he knew about Peters because he wanted to maintain a “level of decency” between them.
