Three men were arrested on Wednesday night aboard their fishing boat with 37 packets of marijuana, off the North Coast.

Around 9.20 pm, the men were seen near Fuller Bay, west of Maracas Bay, and attempted to flee but were intercepted a short distance away by a Coast Guard patrol vessel.

The fishing boat and its occupants were taken to Staubles Bay before being handed over to the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearms Bureau.

The seized drugs weighed 20.28 kilogrammes and carried an estimated street value of $263,640.

In a separate incident, South Western Division arrested an El Socorro man carrying a fresh shipment of drugs valued at $2.5 million.

Police said they chased down a Mitsubishi Lancer along the South Central Road, Point Fortin, and held a 29-year-old man who was driving the vehicle after he crashed into a fire hydrant. Officers said they found two bags containing 30 blocks of marijuana weighing 16 kilogrammes, valued at $1.55 million, and ten blocks of cocaine valued at $950,000, in the car.

Police believe the suspect had just purchased the drugs at a beach as they were still wet.
