A woman and two men remain warded at hospital following two shootings in Sangre Grande and Diego Martin between Saturday night and yesterday morning.
In the first incident around 8 pm Saturday, Kamla Dindial was sitting in her front porch at her Eastern Main Road, Sangre Chiquito home when a man walking on the road stopped in front her gate. Without warning the man then drew a gun and began shooting at Dindial. She tried to run inside but was shot in her waist. The gunman then ran away.
Dindial’s relatives, who were inside, rushed to her assistance and took her to the Sangre Grande District Hospital. She remained warded in a stable condition up to late yesterday. Investigators said Dindial did not know her attacker and a motive for the shooting is yet to be established. PC Hernandez of the Sangre Grande Police Station is continuing investigations.
Almost six hours later, officers from the Western Division Task Force (WDTF) responded to a report of a shooting at Pioneer Drive, Diego Martin. When they arrived on the scene they found two men with gunshot wounds lying at the side of the road. The men were taken to the St James Medical Facility where they were stabilised and transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where they underwent emergency surgery yesterday.
The victims were later identified as Keon Halge, 20, of Pioneer Drive, and Nikola Charles, 29, of Upper Union Road, Four Roads, Diego Martin. Halge, who was shot in his chest, remained warded in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) up to late yesterday. Charles was shot in his buttocks and is expected to be discharged today.
Both victims told police they were liming at the location when they were approached by a gunman. Their attacker reportedly fled in a white Nissan B15 which was parked lower down the road after shooting them.
