Police say Pleasantville father Brent Luces may have been killed because of an outstanding debt owed to a drug dealer.

Luces, 41, was gunned down outside his home at Blitz Village around 9 am Thursday by a man wearing a coverall. Although no one has been arrested, investigators said they had several leads and were currently gathering information on the shooting. They said Luces also was before the courts for drug and robbery offences.

Reports stated that Luces and his killer were arguing outside his house and it was believed the killer pulled out a 9mm pistol and shot him. As Luces ran to the back, the killer followed him and shot him again before running to Maple Street and escaping in a waiting car.

Meanwhile, Rio Claro police said they had made some progress in their investigation into the murder of John Herrera, 58, who was stabbed and burnt along with his house on Thursday. They said although they released their only suspect, they were able to get information vital to their case.
