Relatives of murdered mother Jamie Fitz-Worme were encouraged to be forgiving yesterday as they paid their final respects to her.
Speaking at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, along Nelson Street, Arima, the elder Earl David encouraged the family to be forgiving and turn to Jehovah as that would be the only way for them to reunite with her in paradise. During his exhortation, David said forgiveness brought joy.
“Jehovah is not to be blamed Rianne,” David said, pointing to Fitz-Worme’s five-year-old daughter who witnessed her mother’s killing.
David was responding to a the question from the child who asked why did Jehovah allow her mother to be killed since she did nothing wrong to anyone.
He said that when people turn away from Jehovah to a life of sin the results were death and pain.
“The truth is when people don’t know Jehovah they allow sin to warp their minds. Pray to Jehovah for peace. Forgiveness brings joy. Don’t dwell on 9.20 pm on Sunday, July 12, but look ahead towards paradise, Rianne, Renee and Gregory,” David said.
David sought to comfort the mourners by telling them Fitz-Worme would be resurrected one day and that her greatest wish would be to see her family again. He encouraged the family and the mourners alike that they should turn to Jehovah if they wanted to see Fitz-Worme again.
According to police reports, sometime after 9 pm on Sunday, Fitz-Worme, 37, of Building 14, Unit 5, Rosewood Avenue, Malabar, was at home with her husband Gregory and her two daughters Rianne, 8, and Renne, 5, when two gunmen stormed in and shot her multiple times.
Police said Gregory, 40, was pushed aside as the gunmen chased Fitz-Worme through her home and shot her. Neighbours said the woman had begged for her children’s lives to be spared. Police are probing a domestic link to the murder as the woman was scheduled to attend court, last Monday, concerning a breach of a protection order.
Investigations are continuing into the killing.
