Police arrested three Barataria men yesterday after they recovered a Mac-11 sub-compact machine gun at a house in Barataria. The weapon, police said, was capable of firing 200 rounds of ammunition a minute.

According to police reports, at about 6.30 am members of the North Eastern Division Task Force, including Sgt Cornelius Samuel and Cpl Kerwin Martin, went to the house at Saw Mill Avenue and searched it. Apart from the weapon, the police also found authentic camouflage uniforms belonging to the T&T Defence Force.

The three men were arrested and taken to the Morvant Police Station where they are expected to be interviewed by detectives for a series of firearm-related offences in the Morvant and Barataria areas.

Just a week-and-a-half ago, police from the same unit conducted an exercise in the same area and recovered an AK-47 assault rifle. A 32-year-old man was arrested in that incident. (Rhondor Dowlat)
