Dental records have confirmed that the decomposed body of a man found in Tamana last week is that of former pilot and Caribbean Airlines director Azad Niamat. This is according to sources who requested strict anonymity. But the police say they are yet to fully confirm if the body is Niamat’s. The police said Niamat’s relatives had earlier denied the body was his, saying it was too tall and the clothing was not the type he usually wore.
“According to the initial police report we got stating what he was wearing when he disappeared, we were pretty sure,” Sgt Jitindra Tooleram of the Chaguanas police said. Tooleram said an interim autopsy done on the body by pathologist Dr Eastlyn McDonald-Burris showed the person died from a skull fracture. He said the police were awaiting a second autopsy and the results of DNA samples to confirm if the body was indeed Niamat’s.
He said Niamat’s dental records might have been confirmed by people close to him. Niamat, a prominent Chaguanas businessman and former Presentation College student, went missing on January 29. There are conflicting reports about where he went. Police said they were looking at several possible motives for his suspected murder.
