With the discoveries of six bodies throughout Trinidad between Thursday night and yesterday, one of which is that of a 62-year-old man, the country’s murder toll has climbed to 40. Among those murdered were Rawle Davis, Rafael “Scabber” McKenzie, John Winchester and Michael Telesford.
Two of the victims were found in south Trinidad, one of whom was Azad Ali, also called Joe “Goat” Mohammed. Mohammed had been a person of interest in connection with two murders and had eluded police capture for some time. The other victim has yet to be identified after the remains were found burnt beyond recognition. A police report states that 30-year-old Davis was killed on Thursday and his body found over a precipice at Dundonald Hill, Belle View, St James.
Police said residents reported hearing gunshots and contacted police. The officers went to the area from where residents heard the shots coming and found Davis’s lifeless body with gunshot wounds to the face and neck. Police said Davis was working in the area and was originally from Arima.
Around 7 pm, Thursday, Winchester, 62, was found with stab wounds at Prizgar Lands, Laventille. Police said Winchester was killed after a fight in the area. Just over two hours later, Telesford’s body was found on Sixth Avenue Malick, Barataria, after residents reported hearing gun shots to the police. Kenrick, the brother of 25-year-old Telesford, said his brother was no saint and used to associate with “bad fellas.”
Around 9 pm Thursday, police were called to the La Puerta, Diego Martin, area where McKenzie’s body was found. McKenzie, 35, was the main suspect in the murder of his girlfriend Sahiri Logan of Mason Street, Diego Martin, on February 2. Police said McKenzie was found with an extended Uzi magazine. Since Logan was killed he had been in hiding.
