Fire officers were able to control a blaze at a house on Wilkinson Street, El Dorado, on Thursday, and save it from being destroyed.
Units from Arima, San Juan and Morvant responded to a report after fire broke out at two houses located next to the El Dorado South Secondary School.
The houses caught ablaze around 2 pm. One of the houses was damaged by fire and smoke on the upper floor and by water on the lower floor. The other house located to the back of that house had little to no damage of any kind, fire officials said.
At least eight people lived in the burnt house.
When the T&T Guardian visited the area yesterday, tenants were reluctant to speak. Fire officials said one man was taken to hospital but gave no further comment on his condition.
