The woman seen in a Facebook video tied with rope and being walked along a Massy Lands, Gasparillo road won't be pressing criminal charges.
The man could have been charged for assault, unlawful detention and kidnapping, but the victim is "unwilling" to cooperate with police, a March 11 statement from the T&T Police Service (TTPS) said.
Over the weekend the video, posted to Facebook by contractor Charman Lal, went viral.
The video showed a man herding a tied-up woman later identified as Zaheeda Mohammed, 39, of Reform Village, Reform Road off Massy Lands. The man claimed that the woman stole peppers from him, but Mohammed said that it was her husband who stole.
The police statement said that officers of the Gasparillo Police Station interviewed Mohammed, who said that she did not want any action taken against the suspect and she preferred he be warned.
She explained that the man whom she knew had apologised to her.
Officers described Mohammed as ‘uncooperative’ and ‘unwilling’ to be interviewed or give a statement. She also refused to accompany the officers to the station.
Woman Corporal Angelene Bassarath of the Gasparillo Police Station is continuing with the investigation.
