Although sorrow filled motorcyclist Aislinn Mohammed’s home yesterday, the thunderous sound of motorcycles leading her coffin to the Preysal Cemetery was a fitting tribute to young rider’s life.
Mohammed’s Nacir Trace home was crammed for her Janazah as mourners and fellow motorcyclists came to honour the free spirited and exuberant youngster who died while riding her bike along the Solomon Hochoy Highway on Saturday.
It was especially heart-wrenching for Mohammed’s mother Valerie and brother Safian as they stared at her body and sobbed.
While many debated the dangers of her hobby, Imam Nazim Hosein reminded those gathered that no death comes without Allah’s permission. He said no matter how someone lived his or her life, death was foretold before birth.
He said he recalled viewing CNC3’s feature on Mohammed and her love for the motorcycle, and could not believe it was her. He said that feature showed the joy and happiness Mohammed felt during her life.
“When you looked at the video you saw a very free spirited young person. Someone who seemed to be exuberant and in recent times that joy and happiness that she showed can only be experienced in the next world.
“Sometimes as believers we ask why is this possible, it challenges our faith but when we look to the Qur’an and all the scriptures, you would see stories of great people who had to undergo similar faiths,” Hosein said.
He described Mohammed as a gift from God, saying that when He saw it fit to call her home, no one should challenge that. Assuring mourners that one day there would be a reunion, he urged them to live in her memory.
Reports state that Mohammed, 30, and seven other motorcyclists were riding south along the Solomon Hochoy Highway around 1 am Saturday. As they approached the Freeport interchange, Mohammed lost control and crashed into the cable barriers along the median and was thrown several feet in the air. Her Honda motorcycle skidded approximately 50 feet away. The police and ambulance service were called in but Mohammed died before they arrived.
