Police are investigating the death of a 50-year-old man from Morvant who died after a fight on Tuesday night with a male relative. Investigators said around 6.45 pm Antonio Oliviel, of Cipriani Street, Second Caledonia, Morvant, was at home with a relative when an argument began. Female relatives contacted police as they watched it turn physical and the younger man overpowered Oliviel and punched him repeatedly on his head and upper body.
By the time police arrived on the scene they found a dazed Oliviel stumbling around his yard. His attacker, who also lived at the house, had already fled the scene. As police were assisting him inside to take a statement, Oliviel reportedly collapsed and went unconscious. He was pronounced dead on the scene by a District Medical Officer (DMO).
Hours later, based on information they received from relatives, police officers went to a house in La Horquetta, Arima, and held the suspect. He remained detained at the Morvant Police Station up to late yesterday where he was being interrogated by homicide detectives from the Region Two Homicide Bureau.
Senior Sup Radcliff Boxill, Insp Roger Alexander, Sgts Sunil Bharath and Raymond Austin, Cpl Greenwich, PC Khan and PC Cardinez, of the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF) and the Morvant CID, were involved in his arrest.
