Police have not yet ruled out foul play in the death of Ashanti “Nicky” Debidin who was found dead by her five-year-old son Ashmeed Sieunarine at their Garth Road, Princes Town home on Saturday.
Relatives believe Debidin, 26, was murdered sometime after lunch on Saturday. Her body was found in a sitting position propped against a wall in the kitchen. Both wrists were slit and there was a gaping wound on her forehead. Her mother-in-law Nazmoon Sieunarine was upstairs when the incident occurred. Police said no one saw any intruder in the property and nothing was stolen from the house.
Debidin’s common-law husband, Imraz Sieunarine, told the T&T Guardian he was at work when the incident occurred. He said he left Debidin and their son at home and went to Chaguanas to do a job. “I got a phone call saying that Nicky dead. When I came home I saw her body. I know someone killed her because she wouldn’t do this to herself,” Sieunarine said.
Asked why someone would want his wife dead, Sieunarine said a few weeks ago he had a dispute with a man who claimed he owed him money. “To my knowledge I paid that money and I don’t owe nobody,” he said. Sieunarine said Debidin was a loving mother. “She did everything for me and our son. I don’t know how he will live without his mother. How I going to mind that child?” he asked.
Debidin’s sister, Seeta Mohammed, said she last spoke to the victim on Mother’s Day. “She did not tell me if she had any problems.”
