Peterson Thomas’ mother believes he was killed because he was a Muslim who dared to enter the area controlled by the Rasta City, Laventille gang affiliates.

Thomas, 37, of Unity Lane, Richplain, Diego Martin, is the most recent victim in the Muslim versus Rasta City gang warfare plaguing the east/west corridor.

His mother Merle Thomas said yesterday that while he was a Muslim, he was not associated with the warring gang.

According to police reports, around 9.30 pm on Thursday residents of Amosville, Point Cumana, heard gunshots and called the police.

When officers arrived on the scene they found Thomas slumped behind the wheel of his Nissan B-15 with bullet wounds about the body.

His killing took the murder toll to 158 for the year, 24 less than for the corresponding period last year.

Speaking with the media at the Forensic Science Centre yesterday, Thomas’ mother said her only son was taken from her senselessly.

“Is not like he do anybody anything. It just senseless,” she lamented.

“I see this as nonsense, this is complete nonsense. Is a set of little youth doing them things and they sound ignorant. I think if they get serious with the hanging, this crime thing will stop.”

She added that her only son and last child wanted to own a security company and even registered the business. She said her son was “friends with everybody” and went anywhere.

A father of two, Thomas used to earn his money by chauffeuring people in his car. His mother said she believed it was while he was doing a job that he was killed.
