Congress of the People leader Prakash Ramadhar says he is deeply saddened by the recent arrest of Jack Warner.
“Let me just say, I am personally saddened by the turn of events...However, these things have occurred and nobody should take any pleasure out if it. It is a sad day for Trinidad and Tobago.”
Ramadhar said he was saddened on two counts—firstly, for Warner to lose his liberty for a short period and the humiliation he would have faced, and secondly, because of his age. “He has lived as a hero to so many in society, to see him end up like this really is painful.”
For Warner’s family, friends and supporters, Ramadhar said the arrest must have been a bitter experience. Ramadhar spoke to reporters yesterday after bringing greetings to the T&T Prison Service which celebrated its sports and family day in Arouca.
He reminded citizens that while justice would take its course in Warner’s case, one must remember that the Chaguanas West MP was entitled like everyone else to the presumption of innocence.
“I wish him well.”
Ramadhar, who had repeatedly called for Warner to step down from the PP Government following allegations of corruption in a Fifa report, said if Warner had files on the Prime Minister he should “bring it.”
