Marc and Bianca Urquhart are calling on the nation to pray that the doctors are able to stabilise their ailing baby Neoma so she can travel to Argentina before the end of this week for life-saving surgery.

The baby’s mother said yesterday they have received the US$90,000 needed to pay for an air ambulance to travel to the South American country and are awaiting one more document from the Children’s Life Fund to facilitate their travel arrangements.

The story of seven-month-old Neoma who is in urgent need of a liver transplant, captured the hearts of many Guardian readers who have responded positively.

One reader, Natasha Bev Cross who set up a Help Baby Neoma get liver surgery fund, was able to raise $7,280 with the help of 52 donors in two days. Neoma is warded at the San Fernando General Hospital where local doctors are liaising with their counterparts in Argentina, while preparing her for travel, although no date has been set.

“We are still awaiting one of the letters from the Children’s Life Fund for us to take to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for it to be legalised and then to go to the Argentinian Embassy. As of today we have not gotten a date to go. Neoma is still holding on. Doctors are trying their best to see how stable she can be so we can travel. We are trusting God that it happens within this week,” Bianca said yesterday.

She said that State-owned Petrotrin, where her husband is employed, has agreed to assist with the US$90,000 to pay for an air ambulance.

“While the account has reached a certain amount, there is still after care which is very expensive. We will have to stay there for approximately four months or more. We want people to know this so if they still want to contribute, we will accept their help.”
