A 31-year-old Morvant man who police say was wanted in connection with three murders was killed by police yesterday as officers moved in to arrest him.
According to police reports, the officers from the Morvant Police Station went to Sapodilla Hill, Bronxville, Mapp Lands, Laventille around 5 am.
The officers, led by sergeants Sgt Austin and Taylor, of the North Eastern Division Task Force, were searching several abandoned houses and acting on information they surrounded an abandoned house shortly after 6 am.
Police said as they moved in, Ronney “Psycho” John, of Chinapoo Gardens, Morvant was spotted through a window, armed with a gun.
Investigators said when they called out to John to drop the weapon he pointed it in their direction and before he was able to shoot at them they opened fire hitting John. The injured man was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said a mac-10 sub machine gun with a loaded magazine was found on John.
Police believe that John was a part of a new gang called “Gangsta City.” Investigators said John was wanted by Homicide detectives for questioning in three separate murders in the Morvant area.
John was a suspect in the murder of Kevin Polin, an ex soldier who was shot dead along the Lady Young Road on May 14.
Police also believe that he was involved in the murder of Shaqeel Joseph, on April 28. John was also a suspect in the murder of a senior citizen who was stabbed to death in a robbery in the district.
Police investigations continue.
