The body of Rahman “Ash” Mohammed was finally removed from down a precipice on Monday night after several failed attempts since his body was discovered around 1 pm on Sunday.
According to police, the 48-year-old man’s body was air-lifted out of the remote Fond Palmiste, located off North Post Road, Diego Martin.
Mohammed, according to police, left his home at Water Wheel, Diego Martin, on June 16 saying he was going fishing.
Police say they have no motive for Mohammed’s killing but admit the fishing spot used by Diego Martin residents is also a drug transhipment point and are working on the theory that Mohammed may have been killed for witnessing a drug deal.
Police sources said Mohammed’s body could not have been removed sooner due to a series of unfortunate events.
They said when they contacted the National Operations Centre (NOC) for aerial support they were told they had no helicopters available.
Air Guard officers told the police they were in a meeting when called on Monday morning for assistance. Officials at the Air Guard contacted the retrieval team yesterday afternoon but after failed attempts to locate them, they had to return to base to refuel.
Around 7 pm Monday, Mohammed’s body was finally removed from down the precipice. Mohammed who was shot in the face was already decomposing when he was found and police believe he was killed since last Tuesday.
A Crime Scene Investigator (CSI), identified as Alicia Aleong, had to be carried from the precipice after she sprained her ankle while processing the scene. She was brought out from the scene by regiment officers around 4 am yesterday.
